Kurt Daugherty
Professor Emeritus of Recording Arts
Biography
Professor Kurt Daugherty started his career in the entertainment business as an Imagineer for Walt Disney WED Enterprise as a special effects designer. He worked on both Tokyo Disneyland and the Disney World/EPCOT theme parks. After Disney, Kurt worked for the School of Theater, Film, and Television at UCLA as a senior designer and technician for the UCLA film school. He assisted students and faculty in film and television production for camera and location sound recording.
After getting his MFA at UCLA, Kurt joined Loyola Marymount School of Film and Television as a visiting Assistant Professor in 2005. He became a full-time Assistant Professor in the LMU Recording Arts Department in 2006. Kurt has taught graduate and undergraduate LMU students in production sound and sound design for film and television.
Also, professionally, Kurt works as a freelance production sound mixer/sound designer/filmmaker. Kurt’s recent endeavors have included the production sound mixer for the Emmy award-winning documentary Cuba: The Forgotten Revolution. Directing a nationally broadcast “Good Neighbor Pharmacy” commercial for diabetes awareness and producing and directing a broadcast PSA bringing awareness about the sex trafficking of minors. He has also been involved as a production mixer and sound designer on many of his LMU collogues projects throughout his years at LMU. As of 2023, Kurt is a Professor of Emeritus of the Loyola Marymount Film School Recording Arts Department.
